Home Visits in the 2024-25 School Year

Celebrating Impact and Resilience

Each year, Parent Teacher Home Visits conducts a network-wide census to track the growth and reach of our relational home visit model across the country. This year's tallies reveal a story of both challenge and promise—one that reflects the resilience of educators and families committed to building stronger connections despite difficult circumstances.

Growing Our Foundation

We’re pleased to report steady growth in the foundational indicators that position us for future success. We trained 3,147 educators this year, maintaining momentum from last year’s substantial increase. This continued investment in training represents educators’ unwavering commitment to building authentic relationships with families.

Even more encouraging, PTHV is now implemented at 429 school sites—a remarkable 22% increase from last year’s 346 sites. This expansion demonstrates that more school communities are recognizing the transformative power of relational home visits and are choosing to make them a cornerstone of their family engagement strategy.

Our geographic reach also expanded in meaningful ways. We now serve communities in Alaska, Indiana, and New Jersey for the first time, bringing our network to include the District of Columbia and Saskatchewan, Canada, alongside states across the nation.

Navigating Headwinds with Hope

The total number of home visits conducted this year—30,950—represents a decrease from last year’s 34,159 visits. We acknowledge this reality openly because we believe in transparency with our network and partners.

Budget constraints affected several of our largest implementing districts. Denver experienced significant funding reductions that impacted their program, as did the District of Columbia. We also saw decreases in Sacramento and Saint Paul, though Saint Paul’s numbers have returned to levels more consistent with their historical trends.

Yet amid these challenges, we witnessed inspiring growth. Detroit, Washoe County, and Cajon Valley all expanded their home visit programs. We’re especially excited to welcome Jersey’s iLearn system to our network, where 21 school sites collectively conducted 500 visits in their first year of implementation.

The current educational climate has many districts facing tighter budgets and difficult decisions about programming. However, this moment also presents an opportunity. School communities across our network have found creative and sustainable ways to fund home visits, and we’re eager to share these strategies.

Looking Forward

The 22% growth in school sites implementing PTHV, combined with steady increases in educators trained, gives us reason for optimism. These leading indicators suggest that even as we navigate near-term challenges, we’re building the infrastructure for expanded impact in the years ahead.

If your district is exploring ways to launch or sustain a home visit program despite budget constraints, we invite you to reach out. Our team offers consultation on the innovative funding approaches districts have successfully employed—from reallocating existing family engagement resources to leveraging community partnerships and competitive grants.

The work of building trusting relationships between educators and families has never been more important. Every home visit represents a bridge built, a partnership strengthened, and a student better understood. We’re grateful to the thousands of educators and families who continue this essential work.
