Emily Garcia

[WASHINGTON, DC – July 23, 2025] Parent Teacher Home Visits (PTHV), a national leader in building authentic family-school partnerships, announces the appointment of Emily Garcia, Executive Director of the DC Office at Flamboyan Foundation, to its Board of Directors.

Emily Garcia brings nearly two decades of experience in education leadership, with a distinguished record of advancing equity and family engagement. At Flamboyan Foundation, Emily leads the organization’s work to expand REAL Family Engagement with partners both locally and nationally. Her career spans roles at DC Public Schools—where she oversaw teacher recruitment and selection redesign—and The New Teacher Project, supporting innovative pathways into teaching. Emily is a graduate of the University of Maryland and Georgetown University.

“Emily’s leadership is grounded in both empathy and strategy,” said Dr. Andrea Prejean, Executive Director of PTHV. “Her commitment to authentic family engagement and her proven ability to build bridges across communities will strengthen our mission to foster trust and partnership between families and schools. It is a privilege to welcome her to our board.”

Emily’s appointment comes as PTHV continues to expand its impact, equipping educators nationwide to build trusting relationships with families through evidence-based home visits. A leader known for centering community voice and collaboration, Emily’s impact has been felt at school, district, and national levels. Her experience will help shape PTHV’s next chapter as we expand our efforts to deepen family-school connections across the country.

“This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for me, both professionally and personally,” said Emily Garcia. “I have witnessed the transformative power of meaningful family engagement to drive student learning. I look forward to collaborating with PTHV to ensure that every child is seen and valued, and that families are true partners in education.”

Garcia’s passion for education is rooted in her own experience as a product of public schools. Her appointment reinforces PTHV’s strategic focus on integrating evidence-based family engagement practices into teacher preparation programs, aligning with its vision to ensure every educator is equipped to forge meaningful connections with families. Her leadership will be critical in advancing PTHV’s mission at a national level, particularly in addressing challenges such as chronic absenteeism, teacher retention, and rebuilding family trust in education.
