Parent Teacher Home Visits trains K-12 teachers and staff to make a meaningful connection with the families of their students, starting with a voluntary home visit. There are numerous models of home visits; ours was honed from years of deep listening—to families and educators through several years of conversations, focus groups, and pilots. At the heart of the PTHV model is a set of core practices we call the five non-negotiables. This means all implementations of Parent Teacher Home Visits take local context into account, but they observe these core practices with fidelity. Above all, our visits are not drop-ins, surprises, gotchas, wellness checks, or other measures that can result in punitive measures being taken. That they are brief appointments between two willing colleagues in a mutually agreed upon setting outside of school. And their goal is to establish trust between the adults, the educators and family members, who are working to ensure the student succeeds.

PTHV advances student success and school improvement by leveraging relationships, research, and a national network of partners to advance evidence-based practices in relational home visits within a comprehensive family engagement strategy.
PTHV is a nonprofit grassroots network that must raise its operating budget every year. Like the local home visit projects we help, our network is sustained by collaboration.
