PTHV Week Celebration and Awards
On Nov. 2, 2022, Parent Teacher Home Visits bestowed eight awards during a virtual celebration of the first national PTHV Week. We launched the week-long observance to raise awareness of the power of home visits and to encourage schools to conduct as many visits as possible during the week, which ran September 18-24, 2022. The celebration was an opportunity to recognize the exemplary efforts of participating educators, schools, and districts.
Three school districts, Stamford Public Schools, Elk Grove Unified, and Denver Public Schools, took home honors for having the most schools and educators participate. At Stamford, 26 educators at eight schools conducted 29 Parent Teacher Home Visits during PTHV Week. At Elk Grove, 75 educators at 24 schools conducted 254 visits. In Denver, 219 educators at 47 schools conducted 500 visits during the week.
Winning educators include:
- Kelly Mitchell, physical education teacher at Washoe County School District (14 visits)
- Amalia Jarquin, third-grade teacher at Sacramento City Unified School District (21 visits)
- Annie Walden-Newman, social worker at Denver Public Schools (23 visits)
- Alfredo Rocha Andrade, English Language Acquisition-Spanish teacher at Denver Public Schools (24 visits)
- Paz Torres, English Language Acquisition-Spanish teacher at Denver Public Schools (25 visits)
“We had 109 schools participating in PTHV Week,” said PTHV Executive Director Gina Martinez-Keddy. “From those 109 schools, there were 414 educators who participated. And those 414 educators did 1,080 Parent Teacher Home Visits in just that one week. Let’s celebrate this collective impact…behind every one of these numbers are people.”
The virtual celebration brought together participating school staff as well as inspired school leaders looking to begin or expand their own home visit practices. Watch the celebration and awards below.
